What I’ve Learned About Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is about knowing yourself – your thoughts, feelings, and actions. This year, I’ve learned a lot about what that means and why it’s important.

🧠 Understanding My Thoughts

Sometimes I have thoughts that make me feel happy, worried, or even angry. I’ve learned that it’s okay to have these thoughts, but it’s important to notice them and think about where they come from.
For example, if I’m thinking “I can’t do this,” I now stop and ask, “Is that really true? Or am I just nervous?”

💬 Understanding My Feelings

I’ve learned to notice my emotions like:

Happy

Sad

Angry

Nervous

Excited
Now, instead of hiding how I feel, I try to name the feeling and think about why I feel that way. This helps me stay calm and talk about my feelings more clearly.

👣 Understanding My Actions

My actions don’t just affect me – they affect other people too. When I’m self-aware, I can think before I act.
For example, if I’m feeling angry, I’ve learned to take a breath or count to ten before I speak or do something I might regret.

🤝 Learning from Others

I’ve also learned that being self-aware means listening to feedback. If someone tells me that something I said hurt their feelings, I try not to get upset – I try to understand and learn from it.

🌱 Why Self-Awareness Is Important

Self-awareness helps me:

Be a better friend

Make good choices

Understand how I’m feeling

Say sorry when I need to

Be proud of what I do well and work on what I can do better

My Self-Awareness Goal:

I want to keep working on pausing and thinking before I react, and being more honest with myself about how I feel.
